All Sons And Daughters are something special. They take a style that some may utilize for stripped performances, and call it home. It’s a wonderful break to my ears from the past few days of loud rehearsals. They’ve both have some of the best voices I’ve heard in awhile too.

I’ve got a reason to sing, do you?

Why Thrice is one of the best bands out there.

It was a warm summer’s night a few months ago when I scrambled my way downtown to see MewithoutYou live at Bottletree Cafe. David Bazan was opening the show. I had always been a fan of his work in Pedro The Lion, and head he was collecting a lot of good criticism from the music press. Needless to say, David Bazan opening for one of my favorite bands ever was quite a lovely scenario.

Bazan was the second act, actually. So, I had a good bit of time to try and catch him. However, I had a previous commitment that was impossible to ditch on. As I pulled into the Bottletree parking lot, I hurriedly got out of my car and waited to get inside the venue.

While the staff of Bottletree, scanned tickets and IDs, my window into the venue was merely the door of the venue. Inside, I spotted Bazan playing solo. Armed with only a sunburst Epiphone Dot 335, David somehow filled the room with the sound of a symphony. It was beautiful and pure; the way he sang and strummed. I thought to myself, “Man, this is going to be great.” However, all good things must end.

Right after I walked in, David sang his final note. I had missed the majority of his set.

I’m hoping one day to get the chance to see him play a full. Until then, there’s this.
